What it is
Parent training is coaching for the grown-ups. A BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst) teaches you practical ways to support your child’s skills and handle hard moments. Then we practice together, in real life, until it feels natural.
This isn’t a lecture or a class. It’s a partnership. We start with what is going well, and we build from there.
Who it’s for
Parent coaching helps parents, caregivers and family members of children with autism or other developmental differences. It’s a good fit if you want to:
- Feel calmer and more confident during tough moments
- Keep progress going between therapy sessions
- Make daily routines, like mornings or bedtime, run more smoothly
- Understand why a behavior happens and what to do about it
What sessions look like
Each session focuses on one or two goals you choose. Your coach explains a strategy in plain language and shows you how it works, often with your child. Then you try it while your coach gives friendly, specific feedback.
Between sessions, you practice during everyday life. Next time, we talk about what happened and adjust together. You’ll leave each session with something you can use that same day.
Example goals
- Use a simple picture schedule to make mornings easier
- Give clear, short directions your child can follow
- Notice and praise the behavior you want to see more of
- Stay calm and consistent when your child is upset
- Plan ahead for outings, like a trip to the store or the doctor
Where it happens
Most coaching happens at home, during the routines you want to improve. Some sessions can happen by video call, which makes scheduling easier for busy families.
Paying for it
Parent training is often covered alongside ABA therapy through Medicaid waiver programs or private insurance. Private pay is also available. We’ll check your benefits for free and explain what is covered.
